ABOUT THE FM K-16 COLLABORATIVE
The Fresno-Madera K-16 Collaborative (FMK-16C), alongside several partners, is working to expand opportunities for students as they transition from high school into higher education and careers. The initiative is focused on building clear, accessible pathways that allow high schoolers, college seekers and adult learners to pursue college degrees, vocational training, or direct entry into the workforce. By aligning resources and partnerships across the region, the FMK-16C is helping to create a stronger bridge between education and employment.
A central priority of this work is increasing dual enrollment opportunities, so students can graduate high school already having earned early college credit. This not only reduces the time and cost of higher education but also provides students with a head start on their career paths. The Collaborative also emphasizes expanding vocational learning, ensuring that students who want to pursue technical training have direct routes into high-demand industries.
Beyond academics, the FMK-16C is strengthening support systems that connect graduates to junior colleges and four-year universities. By coordinating advising, mentoring, and transition services, the initiative helps more students—especially those from historically underserved communities—successfully enroll and persist in higher education. This focus on both access and retention ensures that opportunities translate into real outcomes for students and families.
Operating across Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare counties, the FMK-16C is the programmatic lead for the Central San Joaquin Valley K-16 Partnership (a collaboration of the Collaborative and the Tulare-Kings College and Career Collaborative) which is designed to address the unique needs of the Central Valley. With strong partnerships between schools, colleges, employers, and community organizations, the initiative is aligning education and workforce systems to better serve local students. The result is a more inclusive, future-ready pipeline that prepares the next generation to thrive in both college and career.
RECENT IMPACT
The K-16 Collaborative has secured over $22.9 million in state and federal funding to expand its reach. In collaboration with the Tulare-Kings College and Career Collaborative to form the Central San Joaquin Valley K-16 Partnership, their service area expanded from two counties to four, now serving Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare counties.
